Objective To evaluate the effects of an intensive training model combining pre-learning with scoliosis clinic practice on interprofessional collaboration competency and daily nursing behaviors among orthopedic operating room and ward nurses. Methods A total of 40 in-service nurses from the orthopedic ward and operating room of the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University were enrolled from June to October 2025. Participants received the Pre-learning Combined with Scoliosis Clinic Practice Workshop training. The Chiba Interprofessional Competency Scale (CICS29) was measured at T0 (pre-clinic), T1 (1 week post-clinic), T2 (1 month post-clinic), and T3 (3 months post-clinic); the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) was measured at T0 and T1; and the self-developed Daily Nursing Behavior Transfer Questionnaire was completed at T1, T2, and T3. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 nurses between T2 and T3. Results All domains of CICS29 increased significantly (P<0.001); the Actions for Accomplishing Team Goals dimension showed the greatest improvement. The RIPLS Teamwork and Professional Identity dimensions significantly improved (P<0.001), while the Roles and Responsibilities dimension showed no significant change. Daily behavior transfer scores at all time points were significantly higher than the theoretical midpoint of 3 (P<0.001), with no significant fluctuation across the three time points. Ward nurses demonstrated greater improvements than operating room nurses in the Professional Attitudes and Beliefs and Team Management Skills dimensions of the CICS29. Qualitative interviews identified seven themes: breaking through job-related cognitive limitations, recognizing mutual professional values, complementary growth through collaborative responsiveness, shifting from separate responsibilities to shared commitment, behavior transfer from clinic to daily practice, formation of collaborative habits and expectations for promotion, and barriers to sustaining collaboration in clinical settings. Conclusion The Pre-learning Combined with Clinic Practice Workshop model preliminarily enhances interprofessional collaboration competency among orthopedic nurses within a short training period and promotes sustained transfer of collaborative behaviors to daily practice. This model provides a feasible approach for interprofessional training of orthopedic nurses.
